The issue of gender-based violence reaches every corner of the world. The number of women and girls affected by this problem are staggering. According to World Health Organization (WHO), One in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex, or abused in some other way most often by someone she knows.
With the rise of these alarming issues, Girls Inspired Development Network, through its project, Upskill, empowered fifty-five (55) women who are gender-based violence survivors on socio-economic support and mental wellness. The grant received from AWDF directly empowered women and girls on the need to understand their sexual rights, mental wellness, and upskilling of GBV survivors with business development and financial literacy.
The project further created a partnership with Stanbic IBTC bank kubwa, Abuja branch to empower women in the use of the point-of-sale machine (POS) to enhance their business growth. With additional support from the Abuja SDG office, the beneficiaries received a mini-grant to purchase business tools and products.
As part of our reintegration and providing support for the inclusion of women, Freedom United organization partnered with Girls Inspired to provide economic reintegration to twenty survivors of human trafficking who faced discrimination and are often stigmatized in accessing economic opportunities in their various communities. The grant and business development received by the beneficiaries opened up pathways to sustainable livelihood.
